RG&E SAFETY INSPECTIONS OF NATURAL GAS METERS

RG&E news release:  Rochester Gas & Electice Corporation (RG&E), a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), will be in customers neighborhoods over the next several months conducting safety inspections of natural gas meters.  These inspections are necessary to ensure the safe delivery of natural gas to your home and business.

A combination of RG&E employees and qualified contractors will be performing the inspections.  All workers will identify themselves with either green or orange company identification badges before entering any buildings.  Customers can expect to see employees conducting inspections between Mondays and Saturdays through December.

RG&E is required by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) to perform mandatory routine leak and corrosion inspections periodically.  These inspections will assess the condition of the service line to detect gas leakage as well as check for corrosion on all exposed piping connected to the natural gas meter inside your home or business.  The inspection takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

If inspectors are unable to access the meter and service line at the time of the inspection they will leave behind important information regarding scheduling a visit at a later time.  Customers who fail to proivde access to the meter or schedule an inspection by December 31, 2019 risk having service to the property shut off.  Additionally, a $100 surcharge may be imposed.  This inspection is necessary to ensure customer safety and maintain regulatory compliance.

For additional information, please refer to the PSC website:  http//www.dps.ny.gov by searching Case Number 15-G-0244.

RG&E TIPS TO CUSTOMERS IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS

RG&E encourages propertyowners in flood-prone areas and those who experience persistent basementflooding to consider how their electricity and natural gas services could beaffected by the increasing water levels. By taking appropriate actions, residents affected by flooding can ensure their safety and lessen potentialproperty damage.

Flooding Preparation and Safety Tips

  • If the flooding of a home or business has already occurred or has the potential to occur, customers should contact their utility companies to have electricity and natural gas service turned off. RG&E customers should call 1.800.743.1701 for electrical emergencies, 1.800.743.1702 for gas emergencies, or 911. Customers should never attempt to turn off their electricity and natural gas service.
  • Stay out of flooded basements. Energized wiring or outlets below the water line may pose a hazard; natural gas service in a flooded basement may also pose a danger.

Restoring Electric Service After Flooding

  • Anytime RG&E electric service is shut off due to an unsafe condition such as when the main fuse box or circuit breaker box is under water, it must be inspected by a certified electrical inspector before service can be restored.
  • Once flood waters have receded, customers should contact an electrician to make sure that it is safe to have electric service turned on before contacting their utility.
  • Someone must be present for service to be turned on, the basement must be free of water and the electrical panel must be clean and free of debris.

  • Customers and contractors should never attempt to turn on electric service.

Wayne County Sheriff's Office Warning

  • Never, ever agree to meet someone at an address that is not a law enforcement agency office, station or municipal court.
  • Disregard any call from someone demanding cash payment.
  • If law enforcement does have a warrant for you, we (law enforcement) will make a personal visit to you.
  • Do not give out personal identifying information over the phone, unless you are sure you know who you are giving information to.

Renting Your Property - Residential

Notice to Waterfront Property Owners

A reminder to all waterfront property owners in the Town of Huron:  Anything you plan to do today on or around your waterfront is most likely subject to oversight and regulatory authority which may involve the US Army Corps of Engineers, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation or other NYS Agency, or the Town of Huron Coastal Erosion or Dock and Mooring Laws.  To safeguard against the cost of having to remove or undo something for lack of proper permitting or adherence to existing regulations, we encourage you to first check with the Huron Building Department as to what may be required.  Too often contractors proceed with work without proper guidance or required permits, exposing the property owner to expense and frustration which could have been avoided.

Introduction

The Town of Huron is beautifully situated.  Bordered by Lake Ontario on the north, the Great Sodus Bay on the west and Port Bay on the east, Huron remains a picturesque, rural setting with rolling hills, orchards, farmlands and vineyards blended with vast wooded areas.  A hunting and fishing paradise, a place where agriculture, resort and industry come together in harmony with its natural beauty.
